The Temple I Call My Mirror

By Julia Lima, TIWP Student

“i found god in myself & i loved her, i loved her fiercely.” —Ntosake Shange

i found god in the stripes that wrapped her skin
i found god in the waist that stretched when she laughed
i found god in the fingertips that navigated her ship so wildly
i found god in the sweet song of her voice
i found god in the lips that loved so fearlessly
i found god in the feet that kissed the earth
i found god in the cheeks that soaked up her tears
i found god in the soft nectar of her laughter
i found god in the stars that grazed her nose
i found god in the fire that lit in her eyes
i found god in the touch of her two thighs
i found god in the hands that spread so wide
i found god in the hips that danced with passion
i found god in the smile she wore so proudly
i found god in the chin she held so high
i found god in the back that felt the weight of the world
i fell in love with god
i fell in love with me
i fell in love with me
