I wish people knew that there have been over ten shootings in schools this year—and it is only February.
I wish people knew that even though it was not their sister or cousin or friends, it was someone else’s.
I wish people knew that even though it happened across the country, next time it could be our school.
I wish people knew that families and friends are still mourning the kids from Sandy Hook.
I wish people knew that it is too soon to make a fake gun out of your hands or say “I am going to shoot someone” as a joke.
It is too soon for us to just go to school and act like nothing happened, to act like it could never happen.
I wish/hope people read your poem.
