Closure is a funny feeling.
It’s not quite acceptance.
more like the swirling of rainwater
in a storm drain on the side of the road
after a heavy, turbulent downpour.
Not the ending you wanted,
but the one you knew was coming.
Bittersweet in nature,
like a car ride home after a day of adventures.
Do you miss what it was before?
All those hours you spent thinking,
wondering if it was right.
A text, hey how are you doing?
a few months too late.
Maybe you miss the memories,
not because you want to relive them,
But because a part of you thinks there’s still a chance for change.
Closure is painful,
like alcohol in a papercut,
a wound torn open
more than you knew in the moment.
Closure is bittersweet.
Finally letting go is freeing.
And you really mean I don’t care anymore
when you say idc.
It is finalizing your epitaph engraving,
burying those emotions you had hated so much, again
But this time, it’s different.
Because you are truly ready
for their messy nature to
Once and for all, rest in peace.
Carving them in stone,
To put them behind you
instead of letting them gnaw at your insides
scratching at the coffin walls.
Closure is certainty.
Certainty in knowing you did all you could.
Self-assured that it was the right thing.
Knowing you stood up
instead of backing down.
A grin of I told you so.
And even though you stood alone,
you stood unwaveringly.
So you close your eyes.
Not to forget what happened,
but to let the picture fade.
The road is still ahead of you,
and there are more miles to go.
You take one last look behind you,
carry what was worth carrying,
and leave the rest where it belongs.
