Letter from My Older Self

By Sarah Hawkins, TIWP Student

A grade. Your outfit. A wrong answer. Your acne.
None of it matters.
Not to blow your bubble, but no one will care, no one will remember.
You say the wrong thing, you make a mistake.
So what?
Who you are at this moment does not define who you will be for the rest of your life.

You forget the author of the statistic in your presentation on Monday.
I can barely remember what I ate for breakfast today.
They will forget, you will forget.
You write the wrong equation for the constant on your chemistry test on Monday.
You aren’t going to be a chemist unless you want to be and in that case, it still doesn’t matter, it’s one equation.
None of it matters.

The only thing that matters are the experiences you have and the lessons you learn along the way.
The friendships and relationships.
The adventures.
The stories.
The happiness.
That is what matters.
