June

By Ava Moga, TIWP Student

It’s the middle of June
but the fog hangs in the sky.
The waves rise up and crash onto the sand
warning you not to come any closer.
Yet there are still people on the beach
savoring their sandwiches
and flipping through magazines.
To you, summer might be hot weather and tan lines
but this is what this season means to me.
It fuels a fire in my heart
to look to this place and remember all my memories,
to know that this is my happy place
and that it forever will be.
Someday I will bring my children here
and they will be the little kids
pasting on sunscreen
and playing in the sand,
planning the memories they’ll make for their own kids
and the cycle will repeat.
The cycle of beach walks, family meals, and long hikes.
But most importantly, memories that last a lifetime,
memories that you’ll remember forever.
