The Moon Rising

By Cyra Rahman, TIWP Student

Under her watchful gaze,
Secrets are told in the safety of shadows
People admit their true feelings
Show their true selves,
emboldened by the darkness that she brings

She rises up
Overcoming her dearest
Destined to never meet
Her lover sinks, below the horizon
Not to be seen until morning

She brings gentle light
Not as intense as the sun’s rays

She is observed by people, staring up at her
Tonight she is full
Then she quietly gets smaller,
Until nothing is left
