Just a normal day
Gina watches her silly little kid shows
Carrie struggles to fit into her favorite shoes
I read the book I checked out of the library

Police sirens tune out our voices and the TV
Screams echo through the neighborhood
Gina whimpers
Carrie freezes in place

My book falls on the ground
The house across the street is on fire
Ms. Shelby rushes out, holding her two-year-old daughter, Kelly, and her five-year-old, Mary.
Firemen quickly get to them

The house is now a crisp
Burnt down and blackened
Mary’s crying rings throughout the neighborhood
Gina stares in shock
Carrie leaves

Just a normal day
