What is love?

By Annabelle Kennedy, TIWP Student

Love is the little things, and the big ones. It’s taking turns doing the dishes, sharing the work, covering the other person with a blanket when they fall asleep in the middle of the movie because they’re so tired they can’t keep their eyes open. It’s birthday gifts and Isn’t this your favorite flower and I remembered you liked this so I got it for you. It’s hugs when the other person’s having a bad day and forehead kisses and letting them cry into your shoulder. It’s playing a game with your kids even when you’re tired because you want to make them happy. It’s you’ve started singing again after the house has been quiet for four months and you know you can talk to me about anything, right? It’s remembering someone’s birthday and I know you like nature so I planted a garden for you and giving your dog more belly rubs and that’s what friends do for each other. It’s standing up to bullies when they pick on your friend and asking how are you, I’m glad that you’re happy and let me know if you want to talk. It’s I can help you. It’s being among nature, the glowing melting sunset. It’s hugging yourself, looking in the mirror and deciding not to give a fuck about what anyone else thinks about your appearance because you picked out that outfit because you thought it was good, and that’s what counts. It’s romantic and platonic, everywhere and nowhere and you are love, Aphrodite incarnate, and you can never die.
