The Story of the Rabbits and the River

By Zarya Kobata, TIWP Student

There were two rabbits named Layla and Finn, and they were best friends.

The thing about Layla and Finn was that they lived on opposite sides of a river, and they never got to see each other up close, so one day Layla had the idea to learn how to swim.

She didn’t know what the first thing you have to learn is, so she just hopped into the river and almost drowned, but luckily there was a long piece of grass that she used to get back on land.

The next day she thought of learning how to float, so she got a stick and threw it in the water and observed how the stick floated. Then she went in the water and made herself into the shape of the stick, but she didn’t float. After she pulled herself back onto the river bank, she found a large leaf. She set the leaf on the surface of the water and observed it, and this time when she made herself into a big leaf shape she floated!

Now that she knew how to float, she decided to learn how to move in the water while floating. First she watched how a bird flies and tried flapping her paws in the water, but she wasn’t able to go anywhere. Next she watched how a fish swam in the river, but when she wiggled her tail side to side she still couldn’t travel through the water. Finally she tried running in the water while floating, and it worked! The next day Layla surprised Finn by knocking on his door and giving him a big hug.
