Bioluminescent Bliss

By Josephine Poff, TIWP Student

I want to cultivate a sense of peace and relaxation right now. Through the power of writing as a ritual, let’s open a portal, shall we?

Spinning, spinning, spinning, violet flames and pure white light, bending reality around it. We step into the portal, through the veil, unsure where we will end up. Darkness, the Void, emptiness, no space or time, no senses. Then it all comes rushing back, we blink in the bright light. The sound of ocean waves, light party chatter and laughter, clinking of glasses and light breeze through the palm trees. A bossa nova band near by. Soft, warm, sand under our bare feet, the smell of sea salt and feel of fresh air in our lungs. We’re handed drinks with a smile.
“Cheers!” Cool and refreshing.

The sun hangs low in the sky, nearing golden hour. A pod of dolphins swims by in the distance, pure and joyful. The embodiment of innocence and wonder. Two whales follow soon after, the embodiment of elegance and gentle strength.

The hours have passed by, the beach drenched in red-orange-pink-gold. Laying on a lounge chair, I breathe in, breathe out. Slow down, slow down, slow down. A sip from my coconut. The palm trees wave to me. The chatter has dulled down to whispers, more people are starting to walk towards the waves.

“Look, I see it!” says a little boy pointing to the little waves in front of him.

We all look at each other in confusion then make our way over to the tide. There are gasps from others here and there. The sun has set now, it’s getting dark. I look down at my feet in the water, and then… I see it. A little blue spark. And then another, and then another. All glowing. Soon enough the glowing blue sparks are all along the shore, lighting us up in bioluminescent beauty. I reach down and feel the soft water, moving it around and seeing more lights move around my hand. I stare in wonder and awe. Bioluminescent bliss. The stars start to peek through the darkness of the night sky, and I watch as the ocean mimics the sky in all its glowing, glittering glory. A million shining stars up above, and right at my feet.

I could stay here forever. Anyone else?
